Political Ideology- Blog Post #1

Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Emily, I am 16 years old, and I am a senior attending Everest Public High School. In my AP Government and Politics class, we are learning about the concept of Political Ideology in America, and how we are shaped by our own individual political beliefs. From writing this blog for class, I hope to be able to share my insight, and learn more about myself.

For our first activity, we took the Pew Research Center's 23 question political ideology quiz. The results of my quiz told me that my political typology is Solid Liberal. Essentially, I am among others who are strong believers that the best way to improve the government is through change and updating policies, as opposed to making current policies stricter. Some of the most common beliefs of Solid Liberals include supporting more diplomacy, less military intervention, and positivity regarding current civil rights issues. I believe that the Solid Liberal typology is an accurate fit for my individual beliefs. My direct family members are all Democrats, and have raised me to be forward thinking. At this time in our country, during Trump's presidency, my family members, and the people who share our beliefs feel that it is more important now than ever to advocate for the changes we want to see. Another thing that has strongly influenced my political typology is the environment in which I have grown up. Living in the San Francisco Bay Area, I have been exposed to many different walks of life: different races, genders, sexual orientations, and cultures. My involvement in such a diverse area is one of the main influences on my beliefs. I care about issues regarding civil rights and immigration because the attitude around issues like the have always been very positive in my neighborhood. Going into high school, I learned to care even more about these civil rights issues, because I have become familiar with people who are unlike me, but I know that they are still contributing and valid members of society. I can say for sure that if I lived in another state with a different environment, my beliefs would be influenced by drastically different experiences.
